Hello, I’ve been following the DevContainer instructions here:

And am getting stuck on step 8: when running the following in a WSL prompt

docker login [criticalmanufacturing.io](http://criticalmanufacturing.io) -u \<user\_account\> -p

I receive the following error:

error saving credentials: error storing credentials - err: exit status 1, out: `Object does not exist at path "/org/freedesktop/secrets/collection/login"`

I’ve tried a handful of suggestions from googling the error message but nothing seems to get me past this. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Dave,

The error you’re seeing, `Object does not exist at path...`, usually occurs because Docker is trying to use a Linux credential helper that isn’t configured in your WSL instance.

Before doing a deep dive into credential managers, you might find it easier to try these two approaches:1. The “Clean Slate” Approach (Recommended)

If you have the flexibility, I’d suggest **rebuilding a new WSL instance**. Instead of following the manual setup tasks step-by-step, use the official Docker convenience script. It automates much of the configuration that can otherwise lead to these path errors. You can find it here: `https://get.docker.com`.2. A possible Quick Fix (For your current instance)

If you want to try fixing your current setup first, check your Docker config file:

1.

Open `~/.docker/config.json`.
2.

Look for the line: `"credsStore": "secretservice"` (or similar).
3.

**Remove** that line or change it to `"credsStore": ""` to stop Docker from looking for the missing path.
4.

Try the `docker login` command again.

Best regards,

João Moreira
