DevContainer + WSL Storage Issue (VHDX Growing to 370GB+) — Looking for Recommendations

We are using Dev Containers as our local development environment and are encountering significant storage issues with WSL. The associated VHDX file is growing beyond 370GB and continues to expand during usage.

As a temporary workaround, we’ve been periodically running DISKPART compression to reclaim space. However, the file quickly grows back to its previous size, making this approach unsustainable.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with Dev Containers and WSL storage growth?
Are there recommended strategies, configurations, or best practices to better manage or limit disk usage in this setup?

Any guidance or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Can you give more details on what is making the disk grow. There are several mitigation strategies for cleanup, if for example they are stale docker images, or other problems like wsl logging. Nevertheless, wsl typically is a fallback strategy to try and have the best of both worlds. I would suggest to try and use vanilla linux ubuntu to setup this local machines if possible as WSL is known to have some issues. Also you can specify some limits in the wslconfig
