Disassemble BOM forces all BOMItems replacement

Hi,

I have a disassemble step and I configured a disassemble BOM. However when executing this step, I always have to complete the whole BOM, which is not what is needed for my scenario, since combination of parts can be disassbled. Having a BOM for each combination makes managing those BOMs hard.

I know that v11.2, if I am not mistaken has a lot of enhancements for BOMs and disassemble options. However for the ones using prior versions as 10.2 I was wondering if anyone has ideas on how to workaround it

Suggestions?

Hi Leonor,

What is the use case behind the request? I think it would help to provide possible workarounds.

As far as I know the Disassemble operation works as the exact opposite of Assemble, meaning for assembling/disassembling you need to provide all the components that required for each operation (i.e., you cannot assemble / disassemble partial units).

The operation that allows a partial BOM requirement is the Replace Assembled because in that case I am just replacing certain components, but the number of assembled units is kept as is.

Hi.

This customer has the V10.2. Therefore he doesn’t have access to the features:

  • Special Replace Operations that Looks into the Material Assemble History to use the Remove functionality

Apparently the customer want in some case to remove a component, some time two or three … And it’s not always the same.

We could use a Rework Flow for each component to be removed and for each rework step the respective BOM with the component that needs to be removed (BOM Context). With that the WIP Material can be sent through the necessary rework flows until all the desired components have been removed.

Anyway, for the use case where components need to be replaced, I presented the following possible solution:

Let’s consider this Flow:

• In the first Assembly Step 3 components are assembled
• In the second Assembly Step 3 other components.

In any of the inspection Steps one or more components can be disassemble and replaced

Setup:

  • Assign the Default BOM to your Finish Good Product

  • Create a Defect Reason and assign it to the steps were disassemble can be done

Execution

In the first Assembly Step I have assembled 3 parts

And I’m now in the 2nd Assembly Step where I’m going to assemble the remaining parts

Go to next Step and there I need to Disassemble and Replace the components from PART_B2 and PART_F6 (or any other combination) ==> View Defect ==> Record Defect

==> Select the component you need to Replace using the Defect Reason mentioned above

For each one of them select option “Repair”

Select the Repair Action defined in the Defect Reason (In this case we only have one but we can have multiple)  Select the material to be replaced

==> Repeat the Step for the 2nd Component.

The quantity of the components is updated
