Hi everyone,
I’ve a tricky use case in hands where I’ve tried to explore several modeling scenarios, but I’m still not being able to find an OOB solution for this.
The use case that I’m exploring it’s an operational scenario where we’ve a lot with 2 sub-materials (trays) that hold x quantity. Throughout the process part of the one of the sub-material’s quantities will be transferred into a new sub-material that would be created for that lot and next the sub-material from where that quantity has been transferred would be split into a new lot.
What I’ve tried so far?
- Collapse + Expand
Here, I tried to collapse Tray F quantity into Lot A and later expand that quantity into new Tray G (85) and new Tray F.1 (10). What’s the drawback of this approach? The collapse will terminate the Tray F, we don’t have the option of not terminating the material.
- Split
This didn’t because we couldn’t transfer sub-material quantity after the split has been performed.
Final Note: The only thing that is coming up to my head was the possibility of whether having a Partial Split function, or Partial Collapse or even a Transfer-Sub-material quantity function.

Hi Pedro,
I’m wondering if you could have a mix of both the Split and Transfer Sub-Material operations?
Initially, while reading your scenario, I was thinking of only the Split but you mentioned that you might need to move quantities after the Split is done. In that case you could use Transfer Sub-Materials.
In summary, Split would create the new parent material (lot B), and you would select the initial sub-material to be moved.
Transfer Sub-Materials would just transfer to Lot B that at this point already exists.
Hi @Ricardo_Cunha ,
Thank you for trying to help on this. The split and transfer sub-material would lead to more actions and wouldn’t fully solve the use case.
What physically happens on the production floor is that packages migrate from one tray to another, and later the tray from the packages have been transfer gets split into a new lot.
I’ve some proposals to address this.
Proposal#1:
-
Sub-material creation (Tray G) through “expand” feature followed by a change material quantity (Tray F would have a “Record Sub-Material Loss” of (-) 85 PKG and the new Tray G would have a “Change Quantity” of (+) 85 Pkg. Later, the Tray would be split into new lot.
New Feature Proposal: Transfer Sub-material QTY to avoid using “Change Quantity”. This could represent better what physically happens
Proposal#2:
- New Feature Proposal: Partial Collapse. Allow to partially collapse only part of a sub-material so the quantity collapsed could be expanded into a new sub-material. Lastly. the remaining non collapsed sub-material could be split into a new lot.
Please let me know your thoughts on this.
Best Regards,
Pedro Teixeira
My main concern with Proposal #1 is that if later I want reports or dashboards to look at yields and lost quantity, I would probably see those “record sub-material loss” operations, where in practice it was not indeed a record loss but a transfer quantity from one sub-material to another. Maybe in both cases “Change Quantity” would need to be used.
Hi @Ricardo_Cunha ,
I agree with you and share your concern also. As far as I’m seeing this, we really need a new feature such as “Transfer Sub-Material Quantity”. I took the initiative of opening an ER for Semi Template team to see if they could help us on this.
