Uploading Master Data for Sub-Areas

Hello Team,

We are configuring material logistics where we need to upload master-data for sub-areas.

Sub-Areas need mandatory Flow information.

When uploading MD the “flow” sheet is uploaded after “area” sheet.

This results in error “Error in type Area: The data for the Flow with Name = XYZ was not found in the system” because the system cannot find the flow information which will be uploaded next.

The same does NOT happen when doing the configuration via GUI because we

  1. Configure Main Area
  2. Configure the Flow
  3. Configure the Sub-Area using the Flow information from point 2

The Workaround is to upload the “main area (without uploading sub-areas) + flow (and rest like steps etc)” master data and then upload the sub-area master data. This is not an intelligent solution because it requires the person to makes changes in the master data, rearrange the area information and upload the master data twice.

Is there is a better way of achieving the upload of MasterData with sub-areas in one go?

Thank you

Hi Salonee,

Sadly, I don’t think you can do it in 1 Master Data, you will need 2.

This is because, as far as I know, the area of a step needs to be set on the Step, but for that to happen the Area needs to already exist, and that is ok when we are talking only about the top most area.

But then the sub areas need to have as a Default Flow Path a step that belongs to the top most area, if the Top Most Area is being created at the same time as the sub Areas, the step will not yet be set as part of the Top Most Area because is done in a different sheet that is generally loaded after the Area sheet.

So, what is generally done is to have a Master Data with everything that is needed to create the Top Most Area and another with the rest.
